Ein Dateiformat ist eine bestimmte Form der Abspeicherung von Computerdaten. In einem Dateiformat wird die Codierung von Informationen festgelegt, somit besitzt jedes Dateiformat eine eigene Struktur.
Man kann zwischen Dateiformaten, die an ein bestimmtes Programm gekoppelt sind ( PSD, AI ) und jenen, die keinem bestimmten Programm zugeordnet werden unterscheiden.
